Ushuaia International Airport, Argentina

USHUAIA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, ARGENTINA
Ushuaia, known as "El Fin Del Mundo" due to its extreme position near the 55th parallel South, represents the capital of Argentina's Tierra del Fuego on the Beagle Channel. Tourism has developed since the 1980s, taking advantage of the unique natural landscapes as its main attraction. To facilitate access to this remote center for excursions to Tierra del Fuego National Park, Cape Horn and Antarctica, a project for a new airport was initiated in 1988 . This included new runways, service buildings and communication routes to the city, located approximately 4 km away.
The new Ushuaia International Airport, completed in 1995, is designed to allow continuous and unrestricted operation of large passenger and cargo aircraft such as the B 747-400, MD 11, Airbus A-310, in all weather conditions, operating 24 hours a day. This airport, located in the unstable and rigorous microclimate of the area, has achieved ICAO Category II qualification, distinguishing itself globally for its unique airport requirements.
Today, Ushuaia is the privileged gateway to Tierra del Fuego and Antarctica, representing a successful example of critical infrastructure in a naturally challenging environment.
