The European Institute of Oncology (I.E.O.) in Milan, founded in 1994, is Italy's first comprehensive cancer center, integrating prevention, diagnosis, care, clinical and experimental studies, professional training, and specialization. The project, realized with cutting-edge technologies, was developed by a team of specialists in close collaboration with the client.
he I.E.O. has 140 rooms with a total of 200 beds, plus six day-hospital beds and four intensive care beds. The facility, spread over five levels, includes seven operating rooms, outpatient clinics, equipped laboratories, and a vast research area. The specialized areas include diagnostic imaging, radiotherapy, endoscopy, nuclear medicine, bone marrow transplant center, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, endocrine therapy, and experimental research laboratories. Additionally, there are departments for epidemiology and biostatistics, prevention and early diagnosis, and staff training.
The technological building is equipped with essential services such as administrative offices, pharmacy, reception department, sterilization center, maintenance, warehouses, chapel, kitchens, and canteens. The research laboratories cover over 1,600 m², dedicated to study and scientific production.
The I.E.O. facilities include air treatment for conditioning with heat recovery, a 5,000 kW thermal power plant, a potable water purification plant, solid hospital waste treatment, radioactive waste management, and power supply, including emergency power for operating rooms and intensive care.
