Four Hospitals in Tuscany, Italy

The "Four Tuscan Hospitals" project led to the creation of four modern healthcare facilities in Tuscany: Santo Stefano Hospital in Prato, San Jacopo Hospital in Pistoia, San Luca Hospital in Lucca and the NOA Nuovo Ospedale delle Apuane in Massa-Carrara. Using project financing, these hospitals have been designed with a strong focus on patient well-being, integrating information technologies to create an efficient healthcare network. The structures boast large windows, colors designed to stimulate positive thoughts and materials that promote comfort and privacy.

From an environmental point of view, the project is cutting-edge: sustainable materials, high-quality systems, acoustic and thermal insulation, efficient air conditioning systems and energy saving solutions. The facilities offer a total of 1,710 beds, 52 operating rooms, 21 labor rooms and 14 delivery rooms, 72 places for short intensive observation, 134 places for dialysis and parking for over 4,300 cars. The total intervention area is 349,000 m², with a total gross surface area of the structures of 205,000 m² and a total volume of 821,000 m³.

Each hospital consists of a main building of four floors and a basement, and a separate building of three floors plus a basement, connected by corridors and dedicated paths for patients, staff and materials. There are emergency rooms and an air ambulance. Energy efficiency is guaranteed by renewable sources, solar panels and cogeneration systems, while rainwater collection systems feed sanitary waste and irrigate the greenery.

The technology is highly advanced: intelligent robots move food and materials, while pneumatic post systems transfer reports and medicines quickly. The four facilities serve a total of 1.1 million users on a provincial basis, representing a significant improvement for Tuscan healthcare.
