PONT-VENTOUX HYDROELECTRIC PLANT, ITALY
The largest underground hydroelectric plant built in Italy in the last 20 years. This title belongs to the Pont-Ventoux Hydroelectric Plant, located in the Val di Susa, Italy. It was also the first infrastructural work for which an Environmental Impact Assessment procedure was carried out.
The power plant, as tall as a ten-story building, was created by excavating inside a mountain. An avant-garde technological solution controls the energy supply based on the trends of energy demand recorded throughout the day, thus saving the environment tons and tons of CO2.
It has an installed capacity of 150 MW of energy, and an annual production of 457 GWh.
