The work and the technique: Al Bayt Stadium - Sport Complex, Qatar
The Al Bayt stadium stands on high ground, 14 metres above sea level, with two torches signalling its presence from afar.
The work had to consider highly innovative technical and design aspects. To build the supporting structure 283,919 m3 of concrete were used, along with 52,000 tons of steel to reinforce the concrete.
One of the features of Al Bayt Stadium is its energy efficiency with the use of a 100 x160 m transparent retractable cover, which shields and optimises the impact of sunlight, and white pvc/pes envelope, 70,430 m2 supported by 30,000 tons of steel, which reflects the sun's rays to support the air conditioning system.
The stadium provides excellent conditions for the public and players 365 days a year in a genuinely scorching climate. Summer registers maximum temperatures of 45° and minimum temperatures of 30° (with 90% humidity). It only takes 20 minutes to hermetically seal the structure, which becomes a delightful bubble with a constant temperature of 20°, with cooling air spread evenly because of the vents distributed under the seats in all tiers.
