Nykirke - Barkåker Railway Line, Norway

NYKIRKE- BARKÅKER RAILWAY LINE, NORWAY
Reducing travel times and increasing the number of passengers. These are the two key objectives of the new railway line between the towns of Nykirke and Barkåker in Norway. The project involves replacing the existing single-track line with a total length of 13.6 km.
The new double-track line includes two bridges, three tunnels (two using drill & blast, one using cut & cover), and a station near the town of Horten.
The Horten station will be heated with a geothermal system installed in the parking area. This initiative will not only improve energy efficiency but also reduce the environmental impact of this modernized railway infrastructure.
The project is part of the Vestfold Line, which is being modernized to reduce travel times and accommodate an increasing number of passengers. Once the work is completed, the travel time between the two cities will be about one hour, with up to four trains running each hour in both directions. The project also aims to foster economic development outside Oslo.
