Köseköy-Gebze Section of the High-speed Railway, Turkey

KÖSEKÖY-GEBZE SECTION OF THE HIGH-SPEED RAILWAY, TURKEY
In order to improve mobility and safety in the area, reduce traffic congestion and provide a modern and fast transport system in the area between Ankara and Istanbul, the reconstruction of the Köseköy-Gebze railway line was essential. The project to modernise the line, which is 56 km of double track and includes a number of significant interventions, was therefore implemented.
The first mandatory operation was the removal of the existing railway section, together with the power line and signalling system. This made it possible to realign the track to allow higher speeds of up to 165 km/h and to provide for the possibility of adding a third track in the future.
Part of the work was also devoted to the construction of new infrastructure, including works such as viaducts, subways, retaining walls and embankment protection. New ballast was built, new track was supplied and laid, and advanced electrification, signalling and telecommunications systems were designed and installed.
