DULLES METRORAIL, VIRGINIA, USA
In 1962, thinking about sustainable mobility by providing a viable alternative to the car was certainly not commonplace. The Dulles Corridor Metrorail is an example of how a vision for the future can significantly change a region's mobility habits.
From early studies in 1962, the first phase of the project was completed in 2006, extending the Dulles Corridor Metrorail approximately 11 miles (18.67 km) through Dulles Airport, connecting the Orange Line at West Falls Church to Tysons Corner, following the Dulles Connector Road.
Lane Construction played a key role in this first phase, providing all pre-construction services, design and development of the Traffic Maintenance Plans (MOT), and coordination of the various utilities and service providers. In addition, innovative excavation support systems were used to minimise the impact on local businesses and maintain a smooth and safe flow of traffic despite the complexity of the works.
But the real heartbeat of this project is its positive impact on the community. The Dulles Metrorail has revolutionised transport in the Dulles Corridor, providing an environmentally friendly and efficient alternative to the car, significantly reducing travel time and improving mobility and quality of life for millions of residents and commuters.
