The Port of beira, Mozambique

THE PORT OF BEIRA, MOZAMBIQUE
A port that, due to its strategic location, serves 5 countries. This is the added value of the Port of Beira, the second largest in Mozambique. It serves as a hub for sea trade for neighboring countries like Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, and Botswana.
The port dates back to the early 20th century, and in 1980, a decision was made to proceed with the reconstruction and expansion of the port, including the creation of a new multipurpose container terminal.
The main structure of the project is the new quay, which is 645 m long and 50 m wide. It can accommodate vessels up to 50,000 tons. The new construction replaced the old docks built in the 1930s, which were demolished. The new quay is an open type and consists of a platform and concrete beams. The beams rest on approximately 1,000 reinforced concrete drilled foundation piles, with diameters of 1 m and 0.8 m, reaching depths of 50 m. The seabed in front of the quay was dredged to a depth of 12 m, and the slopes were protected with a rock protection layer.
