Rabat - Kenitra - Larache Highway, Morocco

RABAT - KENITRA - LARACHE HIGHWAY, MOROCCO
A major project built respecting the natural habitat. This is the distinctive feature of the new Rabat - Kenitra - Larache highway section, which connects Agadir, in the south of Morocco, with Tangier, on the northern Mediterranean coast.
The section in question has a total length of 147 km, divided into two lots, respectively 40 km and 107 km. The works include a large amount of earthmoving (excavations and embankments), the construction of a bridge over 200 m. across the Sébou River, near the city of Kenitra, and several minor works (overpasses and underpasses). The highway platform consists of a 9.50 m. wide carriageway (two lanes plus an emergency lane) and a 15 m. wide central separation lane.
The road paving works were carried out according to ASTM standards, with the installation of a special anti-skid wearing course at the interchanges.
The project was made even more challenging by the fact that, during the construction of the bridge over the Sébou, some of the works were constrained by the tidal cycle of the nearby Atlantic Ocean. From an environmental point of view, efforts were made to preserve the natural environment of the areas crossed as much as possible. In the province of Kenitra, where vast areas of cork oak and olive groves are crossed, special architectural barriers and fences were put in place.
