I-35 Improvements, Texas

I-35 IMPROVEMENTS, TEXAS, USA
Lane Construction (Webuild Group) reconstructed 10 miles of Interstate 35 in the Waco, Texas region. The project includes the reconstruction of six main concrete lanes and the addition of new two-lane asphalt roads and parallel concrete roads. It includes the construction of 26 bridges, including a cable-stayed bridge over the Brazos River and a direct connector bridge to connect FM 2013 to northbound I-35.
The Direct Connector Bridge, completed in April 2013, allows the community of Hewitt to access I-35 from the north without congesting traffic on the current overpass. With 18 spans, the bridge required more than 3,600 cubic yards of concrete for its scaffolding.
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) required Lane to advance construction of the Brazos River bridges by six months for the opening of Baylor University's football stadium in August 2014. Lane opened at least one lane on both bridges in time for the event.
The 620-foot-long Brazos River bridges are of the " extradosed " type with trapezoidal steel box girders, featuring a 250-foot main span and twin towers 46 feet above street level. They are the third example of " extradosed " bridges in the United States, combining elements of girder and cable-stayed bridges.
