Ruzizi 2 Power Station, Republic of Congo

RUZIZI 2 POWER STATION, DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO
Water is one of the most precious natural resources for any living creature, and its proper management is not always an easy task. This is the starting point of the story of Ruzizi 2, a dam built in Bukavu, which has enabled the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi and the Republic of Rwanda to manage water resources in some border areas in a joint and coordinated way.
The construction of the Ruzizi 2 Power Station dates back to the 1980s and is located in the upper part of the Ruzizi River, between Lake Kivu and Lake Tanganyika, south of the Ruzizi I Power Station, from which it is about 16 km away.
The project had been commissioned by the international company SINELAC, whose main mission is to improve economic conditions and social welfare through the exploitation of existing water resources. A goal that has been achieved, as the results show.
