Dam on the Lar River, Iran

DAM ON THE LAR RIVER, IRAN
The project was created with the aim of integrating Tehran's water supply, providing water for the irrigation of the Veramìn plain (Southern side) and regulating the flow of the Lar river for the irrigation of the Mazandaran plain (Northern side). The dam is located north-east of Tehran in the Alborz mountains, at approximately 2,500 m above sea level.
Among the main works of the project, the earthen dam stands out, 105 meters high and 1,170 meters long. The main spillway, located on the right bank, consists of a weir connected to a 45° inclined shaft, 120 meters long and 5 meters in diameter.
The irrigation system, also on the right bank, includes a 1,100 meter long tunnel with a diameter of 5 meters, a damping shaft 57 meters high and with a diameter of 16 meters, and a shaft for operating the high gates. 78 meters, with an excavation section of 80 m². The compensation tunnel, 113 meters long and with a diameter of 3 meters, develops between the irrigation system and the main spillway. The works relating to the diversion plant for Tehran's water supply include two tunnel intakes and a 67-metre-deep shaft for operating the gates.
The auxiliary spillway, located on the left bank, is composed of a concrete weir intake, a 130 meter long inclined junction with a rectangular section, 24 meters wide, and a trapezoidal section channel lined with gabions, approximately 700 meters long.
