The work and the technique: Jebel Ali M desalination plant, United Arab Emirates
The Jebel Ali M plant is among the icons of the desalination sectors.
Works to build it were awarded to Fisia Italimpianti, a Webuild Group company.
The plant is composed of eight desalination units, among the largest in the world, capable of producing each almost 80,000 m3 of water per day for an overall 2.2 billion of litres of drinking water per day.
Seawater is taken from the Gulf through huge intakes. It then goes through a thermal process called Multi Stage Flash Desalination to remove the salt; once the latter is removed and the water is made drinkable, it is then supplied for daily and public use, and for industrial and for sanitary ones.
