SHANXI WANJIAZHAI YELLOW RIVER DIVERSION PROJECT: CIVIL WORKS ON THE SOUTH PIPELINE, CHINA
The Yellow River represents a fundamental component of Chinese culture, and the Shanxi Wanjiazhai project aims to further strengthen this connection. The challenge was to divert the waters to solve the water supply issue in the three major industrial areas of Taiyuan, Pingsuo, and Datong, located in the northwestern part of Shanxi Province, China.
The work focused on the construction of three pipelines. The Main Pipeline, which is 44 km long and draws water from the Wanjiazhai reservoir, transporting it to a distribution station near the town of Xiatuzhai, with a capacity of 48 m³/s. The South Pipeline - on which Webuild carried out civil works -starts from the Xiatuzhai distribution station and runs south for about 100 km. It annually provides more than 640 million cubic meters of water, with an average flow rate of 20.5 m³/s. And finally, the North Pipeline, which extends north for about 167 km from the Xiatuzhai distribution station, has an average flow rate of 22.2 m³/s.
