Ras Abu Fontas - A1 B2 Projects, Qatar

The Webuild Group through its subsidiary Fisia Italimpianti designed and commissioned the B2 and A1 plants of the Ras Abu Fontas complex, both intended for the production of desalinated water. The B2 plant is designed to generate 30 MIGD (million gallons per day) of water using two Multi-Stage Flash (MSF) units. The A1 plant, in addition to including three heat recovery boilers installed at the end of the three turbines, includes three desalination units with a total capacity of 45 MIGD.

Among the main challenges faced, the 2 km distance between the steam source and the MSF units had to be managed.

The construction of the B2 and A1 plants brought significant benefits. It improved the operational flexibility of the entire plant, reduced costs and minimized environmental impact. Furthermore, energy optimization has contributed to decreasing the fuel consumption necessary for the power plants, improving the overall efficiency and sustainability of the entire complex.
