A road museum
Caminito is a road in Buenos Aires located in the La Boca neighbourhood. It features a multitude of buildings that were originally built by various immigrant communities (mainly Genoese) with waste materials recovered from naval construction sites. And that host, on their façades, interesting and unusual colour combinations born by the need to reuse the left-over paint of painted ships.
Following a series of unfortunate events that made Caminito lose its original aspect, the Argentine painter Benito Quinquela Martìn revalued this small neighbourhood, restructuring it according to the simplicity and the multicoloured style of the Genoese. In 1959, it became the first open-air museum in the whole of Argentina.
