SPORTS COMPLEXES IN HAT YAI AND SONGKLA, THAILAND
The South Songkhla Sports Complex Project in Thailand represents a significant initiative for the development of sports infrastructure in the region. Located in the southern province of Songkhla, these complexes cover two main sites: Songkhla and Hat Yai.
In Songkhla, the stadium has been expanded from 3,000 to 20,000 seats, with the addition of new facilities for athletics and a football field, achieving International Standard certification for competitions. This stadium includes an 8-lane synthetic running track, allowing it to host high-level sporting events.
About 30 kilometers from Songkhla, in the town of Hat Yai, a new sports complex has been built on an area of 120,000 m2. The complex features a main stadium with 3,000 seats, a football field, and an 8-lane polyurethane synthetic running track, also meeting international standards. Among the facilities in Hat Yai is a 50-meter pool equipped with a diving platform at a height of 10 meters. The multi-sport covered gymnasium offers 1,000 fixed concrete seats, which can be increased to 3,000 during competitions with retractable benches. Additionally, the complex includes four tennis courts with associated facilities, providing a wide range of options for training and competitions.
The construction of these sports complexes required a total volume of 45,000 m3 of concrete, highlighting the scale and importance of the project. Inaugurated in the context of the 1995 SEA Asian Games, these facilities have hosted numerous significant competitions, contributing to the promotion of sports in the region and offering modern facilities to athletes.
Designed to meet the needs of both local and international athletes, the South Songkhla Sports Complexes are an example of how sports infrastructure can be developed to support and encourage sports activities at all levels. These facilities not only improve the quality of equipment available to athletes but also serve as a benchmark for national and international competitions, promoting cultural interaction and exchange among athletes from different nations.
