SPORTS COMPLEX CHIANG MAI, THAILAND
The Chiang Mai 700th Anniversary Stadium, located in the northeastern part of the city in Thailand, is an international sports complex of great significance. Built to celebrate the 700th anniversary of the city of Chiang Mai, the project was completed in 1995. The complex, covering an area of 392,000 m2, was designed to meet a variety of sports and recreational needs, as well as to host large-scale events such as the 1995 Southeast Asian Games and the 1998 Asian Games.
The heart of the complex is the main stadium, which can accommodate up to 20,000 spectators. This stadium is equipped with an athletics track certified for international competitions, thus ensuring the capability to host high-level athletics events. The stadium roof is made of 4,700 m2 of sheets supported by 26 pre-stressed concrete beams, with lengths varying between 25.4 and 30 m. Adjacent to the main stadium is an Olympic-sized swimming pool, 50 m long, with a capacity of 2,000 spectators, and a diving pool with platforms up to 10 m. These facilities allow for the hosting of international swimming and diving competitions. Additionally, the complex includes two multifunctional indoor gyms: one with a capacity of 5,000 seats and the other with 3,000 seats, both equipped with an air conditioning system to ensure maximum comfort for spectators and athletes. Another highlight of the complex is the twelve tennis courts, with a central court surrounded by stands capable of accommodating up to 1,000 spectators. This area allows for the organization of tennis tournaments of various sizes, from local to international levels.
In terms of materials and construction techniques, the project required a total volume of 55,000 m3 of concrete. This impressive amount of material reflects the solidity and durability of the structures, designed to withstand time and always offer the best conditions for sporting activities.
In summary, the Chiang Mai 700th Anniversary Stadium is an example of excellence in the field of sports infrastructure, combining functionality, capacity, and quality of facilities to serve athletes and spectators, contributing to consolidating Chiang Mai as an internationally significant sports center.
