Rock, adventure, and mystery. Abu Simbel for everyone. Cinema
Giovanni Battista Belzoni was an Egyptologist from Padua. He was the first person to enter the Temples of Abu Simbel, in 1817. According to George Lucas, it was Belzoni who inspired Indiana Jones.
As the Abu Simbel operation was being carried out, the world of cinema divided itself between: The Night of the Living Dead and the extraordinary performance of Dustin Hoffman in The Graduate; Dino Risi's work of art, Il Sorpasso and the most famous nanny, Mary Poppins; Hitchcok's The Birds and Sergio Leone's A Fistful of Dollars.
If for the 1978 film adaptation of Agatha Christie's Poirot on the Nile many scenes were filmed at the Luxor Temple, in 2022 to remake it, many scenes were filmed at Abu Simbel.
