When history meets design

In presenting the Doha metro and Lusail tram projects, Qatar Railways Company declared that rail vehicle design is born from modern technology and Qatari cultural heritage merging.
The name “Al Faras”, which is how driverless vehicles are called, is what the Arab female horse is called. It was chosen due to the importance of this animal since ancient times, both for races and war, as they were used instead of colts and stallions, due to their greater discipline and intelligence.

Doha's metro will therefore incarnate the animal's values, both as regards the technical characteristics (the technology used becomes a symbol of intelligence of this type of horse), both in the design that is used, due to the fact that the train's head and external lines resemble the dynamic, potent, slender and elegant shape of the horse, with train windows imaging the shape of equine eyes.
The fresh, moderate and elegant like design of the Lusail Tram, was instead inspired by the sea, as its shapes resemble the "Al Mehmel", the traditional Qatari ship used to fish pearls.
