Bucarest Underground Line 5

BUCHAREST UNDERGROUND, LINE 5, ROMANIA
The M5 line is an important link in Bucharest's metro network, crossing the city from east to west and connecting it to places of importance for workers and tourists, such as Eroilor station, arriving at Râul Doamnei station, passing through the city centre.
The Line 5 Lot 1 project involved the construction of approximately 12.5 km of new line, built entirely underground using EPB TBMs, along the Drumul Taberei-Pantelimon section. This modern infrastructure is equipped with 9 stations and a double-track tunnel, ensuring efficient transport for commuters and tourists visiting the city.
The metro stations are strategically located near roads served by surface public transport or major local roads, facilitating transfers between underground and surface transport for better urban mobility.
Of particular importance is the connection offered at Eroilor station, which allows passengers on Line 5 to access Lines 1 and 3 directly, with the possibility of transferring to Lines 2 and 4 via additional connections.
This facilitates sustainable mobility in the city: figures estimate that as much as 5,404 kg of CO2 per day, 293 kg per day of other harmful substances and 541 kg of volatile organic compounds are avoided.
