VERSOVA-BANDRA SEA LINK, INDIA
In Mumbai, an innovative infrastructure is taking shape that will transform the city's road system: the Versova-Bandra Sea Link (VBSL) project. The main objective of the project is to transform urban traffic by extending it over the sea, through the construction of a 4+4 lane motorway and complex works in the sea. Covering a length of about 17.7 km, the VBSL will extend the Costal Road in Colaba, which is currently under construction, and go beyond the Bandra Worli Sea Link to Versova.
The VBSL will completely redefine urban connectivity with four key links in the districts of Bandra, Otter, Juhu and Versova. Located 900-1,800 metres from the coast, this new road system will include the construction of an innovative 300-metre cable-stayed bridge that will become an iconic symbol of Mumbai's coastal landscape north of Mahim Bay. In addition to this major architectural challenge, the project includes three bridges with variable cross-sections and complex ramps to connect with the Western Express Highway in the city.
The VBSL is not just an engineering feat, but a vision to redefine urban mobility in Mumbai, and by combining innovation, beauty and functionality, the Versova-Bandra Sea Link is set to become one of the most iconic pieces of infrastructure in the region.
