THIRD LANE OF THE A4 BETWEEN QUARTO D’ALTINO AND SAN DONÀ DI PIAVE (VE), ITALY
The summer exodus to the seaside resorts of the northeast has become less congested thanks to the expansion of the A4 Highway with the addition of a third lane between Quarto d'Altino and San Donà di Piave. This is just one of the benefits brought by this project, which in the 18.5 km section not only added the third lane but also rebuilt 9 overpasses, 4 underpasses, 4 bridges, and 2 viaducts.
Upon completion of the work, the immediate benefits included smoother traffic flow towards the main seaside resorts of the northeast and the heavy traffic passing through to Austria and Slovenia, a much higher level of safety, significantly improved comfort for travelers, and, of course, reduced travel times.
This project was characterized by a significant presence of innovative technologies for environmental protection and safety. These include photocatalytic coatings to reduce exhaust gases in the underpasses, noise barriers along the highway axis, and ensuring road user safety.
Finally, the work was carried out without interrupting traffic along the A4, except for some nighttime closures.
