The work and the technique: Dubai Ras al Khor Crossing, United Arab Emirates
The project of the new Dubai Ras al Khor is a motorway junction through 3 underpasses and 20 bridges. It is located at the intersection between the Sheikh Zayed Road motorway and Doha Street. To build it, 95 cubic metres of concrete were needed, 250 thousand square metres of road paving (for 12,636 metres of roads), 19,248 tons of reinforced steel, 28 million cubic metres of dredged material and 740 tons of steel cables.
The construction of the bridges required special solutions to reduce, to the minimum, the impact of the construction site on ordinary traffic, among which using the so called launching gantries, systems to raise and support segments and beams of the bridge while they are positioned, used in the project with an innovative combined methodology to accelerate the structural completion.
