The Oued Zarga - Boussalem Highway A3 represents one of Tunisia's main road arteries, significantly contributing to the country's infrastructural development. Connecting the west of the country, this highway is part of the Global Project for the Mediterranean axis of the Trans-Maghreb Motorway, to connect Mauritania, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Libya.

The Oued Zarga-Rhayette, the first section of the Oued Zarga-Boussalem, extends for 18.48 km. It is a dual carriage motorway with two lanes in each direction, a hard shoulder and a central reserve, with the potential for a future third lane. The project also included the diversion and reconstruction of the RN6 national road for a total length of 6.6 km.
