Ogoni Andoni Opobo Road, Nigeria

OGONI ANDONI OPOBO ROAD, NIGERIA
The road of bridges. This is how, given its characteristics, the Ogoni-Andoni-Opobo route can be defined. It is one of the main connecting arteries in Rivers State, Nigeria, crucial for improving connectivity and economic development in the region. Over its 45 km length, there are 10 bridges (on average one every 4.5 km) that cross the swampy area of the Niger Delta, facilitating the transport of people and goods within the area. Among the challenges of the project is its location in a historically complicated area, marked by ethno-political conflicts that are not yet fully resolved.
The structure of the road consists of a main embankment made of dredged sand, transported and built up with two 15 cm sub-base layers, the first made of crushed stone waste and the second stabilized. The 10 bridges feature pile foundations with a diameter of 1,500 mm and an average depth of 35 m.
