A new road that will encircle the city of Raleigh, the capital of the State of North Carolina and the county seat of Wake County. This is the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s (NCDOT) “Complete 540” initiative which will connect various cities in the area and help alleviate congestion on local roads. Apex, Cary, Clayton, Garner, Fuquay-Varina, Holly Springs, and Raleigh are the cities most involved in the project.
One of Complete 540's projects are the 8.5-mile extension of North Carolina Highway 540 (NC-540), the Triangle Expressway, connecting the existing segment south of Raleigh with areas east of the city. The extension also includes the construction of new bridges, interchanges and advanced traffic management systems to improve safety and efficiency.
The NC-540 extension is designed to be sustainable, with measures to protect the environment and reduce the ecological footprint. Once completed, this extension will represent a significant improvement for the region's transportation infrastructure.
