KHARTOUM - PORT SUDAN, SUDAN
The Khartoum-Port Sudan Road is one of the main arteries of Sudan, connecting the capital, Khartoum, with the country's main seaport, Port Sudan, located on the Red Sea coast. This road is crucial for transporting goods and people, supporting both the domestic economy and international trade.
The project involved the refurbishment of a portion of the road, in the section between Gedaref and Port Sudan. In total, the work covered about 550 km of the overall 760 km. The main focus of the construction was the application of a new asphalt layer after repairing the existing pavement. In some sections, it was necessary to rebuild the pavement and the underlying base, while in others, the embankments were demolished and rebuilt. The new roadway is 7 meters wide, with shoulder widths varying from 1.5 meters to 2.5 meters. The base thickness ranges from 15 to 24 cm, while the asphalt layer thickness ranges from 4 to 13 cm. The project also included the renovation of 108 bridges and the drainage channels.
