I-85 CHEROKEE COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA, USA
The Interstate 85 (I-85) is one of the main highways that traverse the northwest of South Carolina, serving as a vital artery for transportation and commerce. This highway spans approximately 106 miles within the state, connecting important cities such as Greenville and Spartanburg. The I-85 facilitates traffic flow between Atlanta, Georgia, and Charlotte, North Carolina, two major economic centers in the southeastern United States.
The highway is undergoing various expansion and improvement works to reduce congestion and enhance safety. Lane Construction (Webuild Group) is working on expanding an 8-mile stretch of highway from 4 to 6 lanes, in addition to refurbishing an equal number of bridges.
According to some studies, the ongoing interventions would prevent the traffic volume from exceeding the current capacity of Interstate 85 by 2040.
