I-77 Yadkin County

I-77 YADKIN COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA, USA
Increasing safety levels while simultaneously reducing traffic congestion. This was the complex challenge that characterized the work on I-77 in Yadkin County, North Carolina. Commissioned by the North Carolina Department of Transportation to Lane Construction (Webuild Group), the construction site began in 2007 and lasted for 24 months.
The project consisted of repaving four lanes of I-77 with concrete, widening the asphalt shoulder, and reconstructing the US 421 interchange at exit 73. Lane initially repaired the existing continuously reinforced concrete (CRC) pavement in distressed areas and widened parts of the main line to minimize potential environmental impacts. Temporary asphalt paving was also used to enable traffic to switch from one side of the interstate to the other during paving works.
For its remarkable performance in terms of safety and minimizing congestion, the project was awarded the ACPA National "Excellence in Concrete Pavement" Award in 2009.
