Dubai Parallel Roads

DUBAI PARALLEL ROADS, DUBAI
In the heart of Dubai, near the World Trade Centre, two road projects have transformed urban mobility by connecting the city's major hubs: one section linking 2nd Zabeel Road to Sheikh Rashid Road, and another section interweaving a series of arterial roads and bridges in the Jumeirah Lake Towers area.
The construction of the 24 bridges required ingenuity and innovation. Using the innovative 'Combo' method - a name derived from the fact that the technique combines the advantages of two traditional methods, allowing for efficient and fast construction - the bridges were built quickly and with minimal impact on the city's traffic.
But it is not just about the bridges. The project included the creation of new roads, the widening of existing roads and the construction of access ramps. Electrical cables, telephone lines and pipes were also relocated to improve the underlying infrastructure.
Overcoming the challenge of building in a city that is always on the move was not easy, but the use of the 'combo' method made it possible to keep traffic flowing smoothly even during the works. These efforts led to a major award: the project was named MEED's 2014 Project of the Year for Transport in the United Arab Emirates.
