Construction Project to Link State Road SS 36 with Milan's Motorway Network

CONSTRUCTION PROJECT TO LINK STATE ROAD SS 36 WITH MILAN'S MOTORWAY NETWORK
The project to strengthen and redevelop the SP 5 provincial road in Monza represents an important intervention to improve accessibility and road safety in the area. An integral part of the itinerary of the new S.S. 36 of Lake Como and Spluga, the project saw the creation of a new primary motorway infrastructure, separated from local traffic through the implementation of dedicated carriageways and strategic junctions with the Northern Ring Road and the the A4 Turin-Venice motorway.
The heart of the project was the construction of a tunnel 1,805 meters long in each direction, designed to clearly separate urban traffic from the main motorway flow. The tunnel has been equipped with cutting-edge technologies to guarantee safety and air quality, with an advanced filtering system that reduces fine particles (PM10) emitted by up to 96%.
The project also represented an opportunity to improve the urban environment of Monza: the burial of the SS 36 freed up considerable surface space, which was transformed into a vast city park with new green areas, fast and slow cycle paths , integrating the previously divided urban fabric. The modernization of infrastructure, such as the new large-diameter sewer networks, has further contributed to improving the quality of life and environmental sustainability of the city, offering new benefits to the residents of Monza.
