ALEXANDRIA BUS RAPID TRANSIT, VIRGINIA, USA
The core of the work was the construction of the first dedicated bus lane in the Washington, D.C. region.
The Bus Rapid Transit line (BRT) runs on the busy Route 1, located between Braddock Road and the Crystal City metro station. The project includes the construction of 0.8 miles of "bus-only" lane, within the median of Jefferson Davis Highway, and the construction of seven bus shelters. Other activities focused on the excavation, remediation work and material identification, the installation of the drainage and adaptation system, soil modifications, installation and reconfiguration of the new road lighting and signage system serving the BRT lane.
Among the challenges brilliantly overcome was working in a particularly busy and congested area of the city of Alexandria, which required specific safety and risk prevention measures during the work near pedestrian and road traffic.
