ACADIA NATIONAL PARK, MAINE, USA
Acadia National Park, located in Maine, has been the focus of a significant road infrastructure renovation and improvement project coordinated by Lane Construction. This project, initiated through a series of joint contracts between the Maine Department of Transportation (DOT) and the National Park Service, involved crucial works aimed at enhancing accessibility and safety within the park.
Lane Construction (Webuild Group) completed works which included a wide range of interventions: from paving and milling roads to reconstructing the roadbed, and managing underground channels and paved drainage systems. Among the major works carried out were the repaving of Southwest Harbor, including the reconstruction of highway sections and stormwater management, and the renewal of the road surface with hot mix asphalt in Mount Desert.
The project also required complex works on coastal line stabilization; these interventions not only improved the park's aesthetics and functionality but also increased safety for visitors and preserved the area's fragile natural ecosystem. Specifically, milling and paving works were performed on various roads. The reconstruction of granite glacial cirque headwalls was a crucial aspect for preserving the park's unique geological features.
Thanks to these interventions, Acadia National Park has not only improved its road infrastructure but has also ensured a safer and more enjoyable experience for the millions of visitors who admire its natural beauties each year.
