The Indus, a basin for Civilization
With its 6,638 metres of height, Mount Kailash in Tibet, in the Hymalayan Mountain Chain, is the source of some of Asia's longest rivers. Including the Indus, which is born from a spring at 5,500 metres, flowing for 3,180 km and is the longest (and most important) river in Pakistan, and the third in the entire continent.
Along its banks, ancient civilisations and cities have flowered. Just like the Harappa and Mohenjo-daro. In the Indus Valley, Alexander the Great ended his journey. During the difficult battles that caused him to retreat, he was seriously injured by an arrow.
So, as we said, many civilisations rose near the Indus riverbanks. Let's learn more about its history in this short video.
