The British Empire, the largest of all time
It was King Henry XVII, envious of the successes of Spain and Portugal, who first explored the world with expansionist aims. Still, it would take a few more decades for the British Empire to come into being, with such greedy colonialist aims that it would become the largest empire of all time. An empire that would last for centuries, and whose end is pinpointed in the year Hong Kong was transferred to China.
As we just said, the end of the British Empre began after the Second World War, but before the conflict the empire stretched over a huge area, of over 70 million km2, reaching every continent.
