SAN LORENZO HYDROELECTRIC PLANT, EL SALVADOR
Located in the lower part of the Lempa River, 50 kilometers from its mouth, in the provinces of Usulután and San Vicente, the dam of the San Lorenzo hydroelectric power plant extends for 650 meterst, forming a reservoir of 35,000,000 cubic meters.
The plant also includes a concrete spillway with openings operated by radial gates and a power station that operates with 2 Kaplan turbines capable of utilizing the 32-meter drop to generate energy. The power station had an initial installed capacity of 180 MW, later increased to 635,500 kW, which is sufficient to cover the current energy demand.
