PAUTE DAM, EQUADOR
The Paute River Dam, built between 1978 and 1983, is located 120 kilometers from Cuenca, the capital of the province of Azuay. The construction of this facility was part of a wider-plan to make use of the river's water.
The concrete gravity-arch dam reaches a maximum height of 170 m and a crest length of 402 m. It is divided radially into 26 segments and occupies a total volume of 1,200,000 m3.
To complete the structure, it was necessary to deviate the flow of the river by building two cofferdams and a tunnel 600 m long and 12 m in diameter.
