LA HONDA DAM, VENEZUELA
The La Honda dam, located in the southern Andes of Venezuela, is part of the Uribante-Caparo project, built with the aim of producing electricity using the waters of four rivers: Uribante , Doradas , Camburito and Caparo . The dam, 140 meters high and with a crest length of 730 meters, is located at an altitude of 1,000 meters, approximately 120 km from the state capital of Táchira.
The reservoir created by the dam has a volume of 775,000,000 m³ and feeds the San Agatón power plant located in the Doradas river valley, via a diversion tunnel. Built between 1979 and 1985, the hydroelectric complex also includes a spillway located on the left bank, with a discharge capacity of approximately 2,700 m³/s and equipped with a dissipation basin. The project also hosts a diversion channel, consisting of a concrete-lined tunnel. This infrastructure is critical to the region's sustainable energy production and water resource management.
