Keban Hydroelectric Plant, Turkey

KEBAN HYDROELECTRIC PLANT, TURKEY
The Keban hydroelectric power plant blocks the flow of the Euphrates River, in the Anatolia region, about 600 km from Ankara. The dam, built between 1966 and 1974, is more than 1,000 meters long and, in addition to producing electricity, regulates the flow of the river to facilitate irrigation in the surrounding areas.
The basin formed by the dam is 125 km long with a maximum width of 128,000 m², an area of 75,000 and a volume of 34,000,000,000 m³.
The power plant is designed to host eight units with a total installed capacity of 1,600 MW.
During construction, approximately 2,650 workers were housed in specially built villages on the right and left banks of the dam.
The project is key to water resource management and sustainable energy production in the region, significantly contributing to the local economy and energy security.
