Kapichira Hydroelectric Plant, Malawi

KAPICHIRA HYDROELECTRIC PLANT, MALAWI
The Kapichira Hydroelectric Plant is located on the Shire River in Malawi. It is part of an energy development project aimed at increasing the country's electricity generation capacity.
Construction of the power plant began in 1996 and the first phase was completed with the installation of two turbines with a combined capacity of 64 MW. A second phase increased overall capacity to 128 MW.
The power plant uses the waters of the Shire River, exploiting the difference in height created by the Kapichira waterfalls to generate clean and renewable energy. The Kapichira Hydroelectric Plant represents a crucial resource for Malawi, significantly contributing to reducing the country's energy deficit and supporting local economic growth.
