Jibiya Dam, Nigeria

JIBIYA DAM, NIGERIA
The Jibiya Dam was built between 1986 and 1992 to support irrigation and water supply in Katsina State, Nigeria.
The works were commissioned by the Sokoto and Rima Basin Authority to address the drought problem in the area and ensure water availability for communities and farmland. The environment of the area is sub-desert except during the rainy season. It is located in a semi-arid part of Nigeria, where rainfall hardly lasts more than four months, with most watercourses and rivers dry for eight months of the year.
The dam is an earth-fill structure with a geomembrane liner, with a height of 23.5 m and a total length of 3,660 m, and the reservoir has a capacity of 142 million m³.
