Salto Grande Hydroelectric Plant, Argentina - Uruguay

SALTO GRANDE HYDROELECTRIC PLANT, ARGENTINA -URUGUAY
The Salto Grande hydroelectric power plant, located on the Uruguay River on the border of Argentina and Uruguay, was built north of the cities of Concordia in Argentina and Salto in Uruguay. In addition to providing electricity, the facility is intended to use the water for irrigation, flood lamination, and increasing the river's navigability. The construction of the multiple-use dam led to improved road and rail networks, with a highway and a rail line connecting the two countries. The project was carried out in three phases, from May 1974 to January 1979, and was inaugurated in June of the same year.
The completed facility has a maximum dock area of 783,000,000 m² and a capacity of 5,000,000,000 m³, with a length of 144,000 meters and a width of 9,000 meters. It includes a spillway with 19 ports and a hydroelectric center on each of the two sides, containing 7 installed turbine-alternator units, with a total capacity of 945 MW. During its most active period, the project hosted up to 5,150 people and their families in two residential villages, one in Concordia and the other in Salto.
