GORONYO DAM, NIGERIA
The Goronyo dam on the upper Rima river, located 90 kilometer from the city of Sokoto in north-western Nigeria, is key component in the development plant for the Sokoto and Rima river valleys.
With a storage capacity of nearly 1 billion cubic meters of water, the reservoir formed by the dam allows for multi-year regulation of the river's flow and, in the 400-kilometer-long Rima Valley, also provides flood control, irrigation, and year-round water supply for many cities, including Sokoto.
The Goronyo Dam has a maximum height of 21 meters and a total length of 12.4 kilometers.
