BILANCINO DAM, ITALY
The Bilancino Dam on the Sieve River, located in the municipality of Barberino di Mugello, is about 35 km from Florence. The reservoir was constructed to ensure water supply to the city of Florence and the surrounding areas, as well as for flood control and the protection of agricultural lands.
The dam is made of loose material and is of the zoned type. It creates a basin with a maximum capacity of 84,000,000 cubic meters and a usable capacity of 62,500,000 cubic meters; 15,000,000 cubic meters are reserved for flood mitigation.
The dam is equipped with a surface spillway with a fixed crest, capable of discharging 940 cubic meters per second, and a bottom outlet in a tunnel, capable of discharging 250 cubic meters per second.
