A logo, an icon
Eni's symbol has become an international star. Almost, as much as other Italian icons, like the Colosseum or the Tower of Pisa: Luigi Broggini's six-legged dog, is the result of a contest launched by Mattei in the "Domus" magazine, in 1952, for the Agip gasoline and methane advertising campaign.
"The six-legged dog, the faithful friend of man on four wheels." This is how Italian screenwriter and film director Ettore Scola defined the black dog with a tongue of fire, also chosen by Mario Sironi, Italian modernist artist who was active as a painter, sculptor, illustrator, and designer and the famous architect Gio Ponti (among the jury members in the competition at the time). Despite his venerable 70 years, the energetic pooch is in excellent shape and continues to do its job admirably, just a minor makeover, a few green hues on the sunlit black coat in the Plenitude logo, in keeping with Eni's green transition.
