VAN STADEN'S GORGE BRIDGE, SOUTH AFRICA
The bridge over Van Staden’s Gorge on the Cape Town – Port Elizabeth highway in South Africa was constructed between 1968 and 1972.
Made with precast beams launched for the approach spans, it is a concrete arch bridge that crosses the Van Stadens River and was built using sliding formwork without the use of falsework for the central arch.
The Van Staden’s Gorge bridge is 140 meters long, with its longest span reaching 198.10 meters.
