Unionport Bridge, New York

UNIONPORT BRIDGE, NEW YORK, USA
The Unionport Bridge, located in Bronx County of New York, is a bascule bridge that spans Westchester Creek. It is a vital link to the Bruckner Expressway, facilitating transit between areas as diverse as Unionport, Castle Hill, and Throgs Neck. This bridge supports heavy daily traffic, with approximately 60,000 vehicles crossing it daily along the Bruckner Expressway Service Road.
The Unionport Bridge replacement project in Bronx County, New York, was awarded to Lane Construction in joint venture with Schiavone Construction Company. This work is divided into 10 essential phases to ensure the continuity of the Bruckner Expressway over Westchester Creek. Project challenges include keeping the Expressway and waterway operational during construction by constructing two temporary bridges and placing the final bascule span in the open position. These innovative solutions make it possible to minimize the impact on local mobility and ensure the safety of construction operations.
