A small tenacious village
As already said, Recco was demolished during the Autumn 1943 air bombings. The military target was too precious, so the Royal Air Force enforced the attack with a further 27 bombings during the months that followed that November 10. Many lost their lives, and many lives were turned upside down.
The Metropolitan City of Genoa created a documentary that shows Recco before the war, but also the strength with which its inhabitants rebuilt it straight afterwards. Here it is.

If, instead, you wish to enter the mind of those who lived that day, read the touching "La prima stella della sera” by Angela Ardini. A book that tells the story from the perspective of a girl who lived during those years, how life was lived in that maritime small town before being destroyed by the war conflict. Lita is the protagonist who will be able to escape but keeps writing to her brother who has become a partisan. A diary that tells the story from a personal point of view. It is very touching and looks at things from the eyes of a person who directly lived the events.
